Powertrain Analysis

The Q7 uses a turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 with 429 hp and 442 lb-ft, paired with an eight-speed automatic and standard AWD. The outgoing 261-hp four-cylinder is removed, and the new V6 replaces the previous optional 355-hp V6 as the volume engine.

The SQ7 keeps a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 and increases output to 591 hp and 590 lb-ft. That is a 91-hp gain over the previous 500-hp setup, with the same 8-speed automatic and AWD layout retained.

The performance split is clear in the acceleration data: 4.8 seconds to 60 mph for the Q7 and 3.7 seconds for the SQ7. Both models share the same towing limit of 7700 pounds.

Chassis & Dynamics

The platform retains a 118-inch wheelbase and grows to 199 inches in length, 79 inches in width, and 71 inches in height. The roofline is straighter than before, contributing to the taller overall profile.

Adaptive air springs are optional on the Q7 and available in standard and Sport forms on the SQ7. The Sport version sits 1.2 inches lower, while the suspension can lower the vehicle by 2.4 inches for easier entry and exit.

Four-wheel steering remains available. Wheel sizes reach 22 inches on the Q7 and 23 inches on the SQ7, supporting the larger stance and higher-spec chassis tuning of the V8 model.

Dimensions & Practicality

The cabin is configured with three rows as standard. The second row is available as either captain’s chairs or a three-person bench, and the bench allows three child seats. Access to the third row remains possible with a child seat installed.

Cargo capacity is 15 cubic feet with all seats in place, 44 cubic feet behind the second row, and 78 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. The standard cargo cover stows away, and the power liftgate is available with motion activation.

Power-opening and power-closing doors are available. The panoramic glass roof on the top trim is dimmable in sections and uses a coating that blocks 99.5 percent of UV radiation.
